Uno needed a design language flexible enough for rapid feature shipping, but distinctive enough to stand out in a crowded app store. Instead of adopting a generic system off the shelf, we built a component library from the ground up, tailored to the product's playful, fast-moving personality. Every component was designed with engineering constraints in mind from day one, so nothing that looked great in Figma became a headache to build.
Bold color blocking and rounded geometry became the backbone of the system, paired with a custom icon set drawn specifically for the product's tone rather than pulled from a generic library. We spent extra time on micro-interactions — button presses, toggles, and transitions — since those small details are what make a fast-moving product feel considered rather than rushed. The color system was also built with accessibility contrast ratios baked in from the start.
Every screen was stress-tested across edge cases — empty states, error states, and loading states all received the same craft as the core flows, which is often the first thing cut under deadline pressure. We documented each state in the design system so future designers and engineers wouldn't have to guess how a screen should behave when something goes wrong. This upfront investment paid off quickly once the team began shipping features weekly.
Six months post-launch, the design system now powers over forty screens with zero visual drift, thanks to a strict token-based foundation for color, spacing, and typography. New features can now be prototyped and shipped in days rather than weeks, since designers and engineers are pulling from the same source of truth. The system continues to evolve, but every addition goes through the same rigor the original components did.
